Transfer organization ownership

Let an active teammate accept responsibility for an organization.

Last updated · Oct 21, 2026

Before starting

Only the current owner can start a transfer. The successor must already be an active member of the same organization. If needed, invite them and wait until they accept the invitation. An unaccepted ownership request does not change anyone’s role.

Start the transfer

  1. Select the organization and open Organization.
  2. Choose Transfer ownership and select the intended active member.
  3. Enter your current password and submit the transfer request.
  4. The successor opens the organization settings while signed in to their own account and accepts the pending transfer.

The request expires after seven days. Until acceptance, the current owner stays responsible and keeps their owner permissions. If you selected the wrong recipient, create a new request for the correct active member. The new request invalidates the earlier one.

After acceptance

Ownership and roles change together: the successor becomes owner and the previous owner remains an admin. The organization never temporarily loses its owner. The transfer is recorded in the organization’s audit history.

The previous owner can then adjust their membership, or delete their personal account once they own no other active organizations. Transferring one organization does not transfer any others.

If acceptance fails, do not assume ownership changed. Refresh the organization settings and check the current owner. Contact support if the pending request cannot be completed.
